MP4s work well on portable media devices.
The AVI movie file extension corresponds to Microsoft's Audio Video Interleave format. AVI files employ minimal video and audio compression, resulting in high-quality playback with the downside of large file sizes. AVIs can be played in most multimedia jukeboxes, but users may wish to convert them to the Moving Picture Experts Group's MP4 container for certain uses, such as playback on portable media devices. An array on online conversion tools can turn your AVI files into MP4s.

1. Load media-convert.com. (see "Resources" section for link). Choose "Choose File" and find the AVI you wish to convert into a MP4. Media-convert allows for a maximum file size of 200 MB.
2. Select "AVI" as your input video format. Next, pick "MP4" for your output movie extension.
3. Click the "OK" button to convert the file into a MP4. Click the MP4 download link to receive your new movie.

5. Click the "Upload a file" button and find the AVI you want to convert. Next, pick MP4 as your output format. Non-paying users of Mediaconverter must upload files smaller than 100 MB.
6. Click "Start" to transfer the file into a MP4. After the conversion finishes, click the download link to receive your MP4.

8. Click "Choose File" find the AVI file. Afterward, pick MP4 for your target format. Free users of Zamzar cannot upload videos over 100MB in size.
9. Give Zamzar your email and click the blue "Convert" button. You'll be sent a message with a MP4 download link.
