Become Digital Format

You can convert digital images to the JPEG format.

Short for Joint Photographic Experts Group, JPEG is one of the most widely used digital image standards. Most digital cameras shoot in JPEG format, also called JPG after its file name extension. It offers a range of compression choices and allows users to balance file size and image quality to meet their needs. You can convert an image from another format to JPG with photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop, basic system software like Microsoft Paint, or a web-based tool like Zamzar.

Instructions

Adobe Photoshop

1. Open Photoshop, click "File" in the top menu bar and select "Open" from the pull-down menu. A dialog box appears on screen.

2. Locate the image file you want to convert in the dialog box. Select the file by double-clicking it. The image will open in a Photoshop window.

3. Click the "File" menu again and select "Save As."

4. Type in a new name for the image, select a location to save it, and choose "JPEG" from the "Format" drop-down menu.

5. Click "Save," select your image quality level and formatting preferences from the dialog box that appears on the screen, and then click "OK." The image converts to JPEG format within seconds.

Microsoft Paint

6. Click "File" in the top menu bar and select "Open" from the pull-down menu. A dialog box will appear.

7. Locate the image file you want to convert in the dialog box. Select the file by double-clicking it. The image will open on the screen.

8. Click the "File" menu again and select "Save As."

9. Type in a new name for the image, select a location to save it, and choose "JPEG" from the "Save as type" drop-down menu.

10. Click "Save." The image converts to JPEG format within seconds.
