Convert Itunes Files To Mp3 Format

Convert iTunes Files to Mp3s

The default format in Apple's iTunes music management program is an AAC file. The AAC format provides high-quality music, but may not be compatible with all music players. Fortunately, iTunes lets you convert music files to many different formats, including MP3. The MP3 format also provides reasonably high-quality music and works on almost any music program or audio player. Converting to MP3 format requires making changes to your preferences, if you don't intend to switch to MP3 files for all your music, be sure to change the setting back after creating the MP3 files.

Instructions

1. Open iTunes. Click the "Preferences" option in the Edit menu on Windows, or in the iTunes menu on Mac OS X. Click the "Import Settings" button.

2. Click the "Import Using" drop-down menu and select the "MP3 Encoder" option. Click the "Setting" drop-down menu and select the quality level you want to use. Click "OK" twice to close both windows.

3. Select the song you want to convert in the iTunes library. Open the "Advanced" menu and click the "Create MP3 Version" to create a copy of it in MP3 format. Press and hold the "Alt" key on Windows or the "Option" key on Mac OS X to change the option in the Advanced menu to "Convert to MP3" if you want to convert the file instead.
