M4V files store movies, television shows and music videos in a compressed format. Apple originally developed the format for use with the iPod. However, you can convert M4V files to other file types if you want to use them with other portable media devices, including SanDisk's Sansa line of music and video players. Sansa MP3 players are compatible with MPEG-4, WMV and H.264 video files. Use video-conversion software to convert M4V files to any of these video formats.
Instructions

It converts M4V files to MP4, MPG, 3GP, FLV and other compressed file types. It includes preset conversion options compatible with a number of portable media devices, including the SanDisk Sansa, Creative Zen and Microsoft Zune.
