Convert Music To Mp3 Free Of Charge

Most audio formats can be legally converted for free to MP3 format--the exceptions being for copyright-protected music you may have bought from an online store. There are many programs you can use, including iTunes and sites like Zamzar.com, or Media-Convert.com. These websites allow you to upload your music to their server, and will convert them to many audio formats free of charge, including to MP3s. If you are converting from high quality audio files like WAVs or AIFFs, expect some loss in audio quality, as MP3s are much more compressed than these other formats.

Instructions

Converting with iTunes

1. Download and install the latest version of iTunes from Apple.com. Agree to the licensing terms and open iTunes.

2. Open your music in iTunes by clicking "Edit" and selecting "Add to Library..." Locate the desired music in the pop-up window and open it in iTunes.

3. Select "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu. Click the "Import Settings" button.

Choose the "MP3 Encoder" option from the drop-down menu. Click "OK" twice and exit back to the iTunes library.

4. Right-click the icon of the song you want converted. Select "Create MP3 Version" and wait for your new MP3 to appear beneath your old music file.

Zamzar MP3 Conversions

5. Launch your web browser and visit Zamzar.com.

Click the "Convert Files" tab.

6. Select the file you want converted by clicking the "Browse..." button and choosing it from the new Windows Explorer menu. Open your music file in Zamzar.

7. Select "MP3" from the drop-down list of export options.

8. Type your email address in the proper box so Zamzar can notify you when conversion is complete. (Your email alert will contain a download link to visit to download your file.)

9. Click "Convert" to agree to their terms of use and begin the conversion.

Media-Convert

10. Open your web browser and direct it to Media-Convert.com. Select the "Local File Conversion" tab from the top of your screen.

11. Click the file "Browse..." button. Navigate to your music file in the pop-up screen and open it in Media-Convert.

Choose your input file's format from the "Input Format" drop-down menu.

12. Select "MPEG-1/2 Audio Layer 3 (.mp3)" from the "Output Format" list.

13. Click "OK" to accept the terms of use and begin the conversion. You will be directed to a new screen containing a download link that will become available once your music has been converted.
