Converting SCDG discs to MP3+G computer files allows Karaoke hosts to use computer software-based music players rather than compact disc Karaoke machines. Advantages of conversion include: no physical discs; ease of song searching, retrieval and playing; replacement of SCDG disc players and carrying cases with a laptop. SCDG means Super Compact Disc plus Graphics - a common karaoke disc format. MP3+G stands for MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 plus Graphics - a version of the popular MP3 music file with an additional music-synchronized graphical lyric display file.
Instructions
1. Install the SCDG to MP3+G conversion software by inserting the software disc into the computer's CD-R drive or downloading from the manufacturer's website, following the screen prompts for your particular operating system. Software examples include: RoxBox Karaoke File Converter V1, Power Karaoke's Power SCDG Ripper, Softpedia Karaoke File Converter 1.0 and Doblon Power SCDG Ripper 1.0.
2. Launch the conversion software by clicking on the desktop icon. Software may also be accessed by entering the software name in your computer's Start menu search box or locating it in the "Programs" list also located in the Start menu.
3. Insert the SDCG disc into the computer's CD drive. The song file names will appear in the software's dialog box.
4. Choose the folder in which the MP3+G files will be saved by clicking the "Browse" button and choosing the file name and location. Use the folder where your music player files are stored or choose the converter's default SCGD folder, which is automatically created when the software is opened.
5. Click the box next to the songs you wish to convert and choose "MP3+G" from the "RIP Format" button.
6. Type the artist name and title in the "File Name" box using the text format required by the software. A format example will be provided.
7. Click on the "Rip" button to begin the file conversion. The software will alert you when the file conversion is complete.
