VOB files need to be converted before playback.
The VOB (Video Object) file format is a container used primarily on DVDs for saving video data. VOB files are almost always found inside of VIDEO_TS folders on the DVD. WMV (Windows Media Video) files are video files associated with Microsoft's Windows Media Player digital jukebox. When converting between the two formats, there are both online and downloadable freeware options; freeware items are available at no charge, but at some point a fee is required for continued use.
Instructions
Online Conversion
1. Navigate to a file conversion website (see Resource 1). Sites such as Media-convert provide ad-based freeware options for video file conversion.
2. Select the "Upload" or "Select File" button. In the popup menu, locate the VOB you want to convert and click "OK."
3. Select "VOB" or "Video Object" as your input file format.
4. Select "WMV" or "Windows Media Video" as your output format.
5. Click "Convert" or "Start" to begin the conversion. Once the conversion is complete, Media-convert makes a pop-up window with a download link to your WMV file.
OJOsoft Total Video Converter
6. Download OJOsoft's Total Video Converter software (see Resource 2). A freeware mode is available, which allows you to perform a limited number of conversions before the software asks for payment.
7. Install the TVC software and accept the user's agreement.
8. Click "Browse" in the main menu. Choose the VOB you wish to convert in the popup menu by clicking "Open."
9. Select the "To WMV" button at the top of the menu.
10. Pick a destination folder for your WMV and click the "Convert" button. The new file appears in the folder you selected.
Super DVD VOB Converter
11. Download the Super DVD VOB Converter freeware (see Resource 3). Accept the user's agreement to complete the installation.
12. Click the "Select File" button and find the VOB file on your hard drive. Choose "VOB" as your input format.
13. Select "WMV" as your output format.
14. Click "Select Folder" to choose a destination for the WMV file.
15. Click "Convert" to begin the VOB to WMV conversion. Once the conversion is complete, the WMV file will appear in the folder you chose in Step 4.
