Three of the most common music formats are WMA, WAV and MP3. Each format has specific areas in which it is superior. Knowing convert between these formats quickly is helpful for digital music collectors.

Switch Audio Converter
1. Download the necessary software. Go to the "References" section below and click on the "Switch Audio Converter Download" link. Download the software from the Switch website and install it (default settings are fine).
2. Double-click on your newly installed Switch Audio Converter desktop shortcut. In the upper left area of the new window, click the "Add File(s)" button. Browse your hard drive for the WMA sound file you wish to convert, then double-click it. Repeat the process for additional files you wish to convert. Click on the "Browse" button on the bottom. In the new window, search for a save location for your newly created WAV or MP3 file. Click "OK."
3. Convert the WMA file into either the WAV or MP3 music format. To create a WAV file, click on the ".mp3" button in the bottom left, scroll down the drop-down menu and click ".wav."Otherwise, you don't need to change anything. Click on the "Convert" button in the bottom right corner of the window. Once the music files are converted, click on the "Open Output Folder" button on the bottom of the window to view them.

4. Go to the YouConvertIt homepage listed in the "References" section. This website will convert the file for you without requiring a software download. However, there are fewer customization options. For example, you cannot choose the file's exact bitrate quality.
5. Convert your WMA sound file into a WAV or MP3 file. Type in your email address. Click on the "Browse" button and select the WMA file you wish to convert. Click on the drop-down menu under "Convert to:" and select either WAV or MP3. Finally, click on the "Convert" button. This may take some time, depending on the size of the file you wish to convert.
6. Download your newly converted WAV or MP3 file. Go to your email inbox. Within a few minutes, YouConvertIt.com will send an email indicating where and download your new music file.

7. Go to the MediaConverter website below in the "References" section. Like YouConvertIt, MediaConverter allows you to convert WMA files to WAV and MP3 without download any software. While MediaConverter has a maximum file upload size (100 MB) and a maximum of five conversions, it allows you advanced conversion options such as choosing the bitrate for your new sound file.
8. Select your WMA file. On the left side of the screen, click the "Upload a file" button. Click on "Browse" and select the desired WMA file. Press the "OK" button. Press the "Go to Next Step" button. Click on the drop-down menu and select either WAV or MP3. If you need advanced options, check the "advanced options" box. Press "OK."
9. Configure advanced options and download your newly converted file. If you selected advanced options, select the audio codec and the bitrate. Press the "OK" button. Click on "Start," watch the progress below, then click on the "Download" link. Your new WAV or MP3 file will be downloaded to your computer.
