The Xbox 360 can store MP3 files so that you can listen to them while playing your games. However, you cannot move the files directly from an MP3 player like an iPod or Zune to the Xbox's hard drive. There are, however, a number of indirect ways to both stream and copy your music files, depending on how much hard drive space your game console has and how much you want to store.
Instructions
1. Listen to music files directly from an MP3 player by simply plugging the player into the Xbox 360 using a USB cord. This should be the same cord used by most MP3 players to connect to your PC, and the Xbox will recognize your player automatically when you plug it in. Simply choose the files you want to play as you normally would on your MP3 player, and they will play through the Xbox.
2. Move your files onto the Xbox's hard drive by first creating CDs of the music files you want to transfer. Plug your MP3 player into your PC, and allow the player's software to begin.
3. From the File menu in both iTunes and the Zune software, you can choose "Create a CD." Select this to create either a traditional audio CD or a simple collection of MP3 files. (Note that MP3 files will not play in a regular CD player, but they will play on the Xbox 360.)
4. Make sure that any files you have purchased from online stores are in fact MP3 files instead of MP4s or WMA files. You will need to convert these files before transferring them to the disk in order for the Xbox to read them; luckily, both iTunes and Zune offer you the option of doing this when you make a music CD, so select "Yes" if alerted by the software that you need to convert the files.
5. Place the CD into your Xbox's disk drive. When it loads, choose "Copy Files" from the menu that appears. The Xbox will then place these in a music folder on its hard drive, and you will be able to play them at any time by choosing the music options from the main menu. (Press the green Xbox button on the controller to bring up this menu at any time.)
