Convert Protected Audio Recordings To Mp3 Format

When you legally download music from services such as iTunes and Musicmatch Jukebox, the files are protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM). This prevents you from playing the music on unsupported players. Use these steps to convert your protected audio files to MP3. Be aware that you may only listen to these files. Distributing them is illegal.

Instructions

Option 1: Use a CD Burner

1. Burn the protected files to an audio CD.

2. Use ripping software to rip the audio CD you just burned into MP3 files. Your computer may have come with ripping software. If not, you can download a program such as Express Rip or Blaze Media Pro.

Option 2: Record the Files

3. Download a free recording program such as Audacity.

4. Install the program on your computer.

5. Change the sound recording mode. Double-click the volume control (speaker) icon next to the clock on the task bar. Select "Properties" from the "Options" menu. Select "Recording" in the "Adjust Volume For" field. Check all the boxes. Click "OK." Populate the check box for Stereo Mix. Close the volume control.

6. Open your audio player. Locate a song you would like to convert.

7. Create a new file in your audio recording program. Choose MP3 format and stereo mode. Click "Record."

8. Click "Play" in the audio player software. Click "Stop" when the song ends. Go back to the recording program and click "Stop."
