Create A 1950themed Party Table

Rent a juke box for a fun 1950s party.

Recreate a 1950s style diner or celebrate a sock hop with an inspired table using a few recycled or reproduction items. In the '50s, popular colors included turquoise, bright pink, black and white. Vinyl records were the rage along with fast cars.

Instructions

1. Cover square or rectangular tables with pink or turquoise table cloths and tape a strip of contrasting, black or white crepe paper streamer down the center. Sprinkle guitar- and music note-shaped confetti down the center over the strip. Cover a round table with a pink table cloth. Cut out poodle shapes from felt and glue them on the edges of the tablecloth at equal intervals so it looks like a poodle skirt.

2. Rent a mini jukebox, the kind that was available in individual booths. Use it as a centerpiece and let guests play songs from it.

3. Place an arrangement of flowers as a centerpiece on the table and decorate around it with fuzzy dice or yo-yos. Fill a large glass sundae dish with flowers, pink bubble gum, licorice and other famous '50s candy. Place a candy necklace draped over top.

4. Set small '50s-style toy cars on the table or put a game of checkers or Parcheesi on the end of each table. Guests can play these popular '50s games while celebrating. Mr. Potatohead became popular during the '50s. Spread pieces down the center of the table and allow guests to put him together.

5. Make napkin holders out of old 45 rpm records by slipping the napkin through the hole in the record. Insert a napkin between the arms of sunglasses for another '50s-inspired napkin ring.

6. Set old vinyl album-sized records under place and use as chargers. Complete the table with reproductions of old soda glasses.
