Decorate A Kitchen Having A Theme

Decorate your kitchen with a charming wine-inspired theme.

You spend a lot of time in your kitchen, so decorate it with the things you love. Choose a kitchen decor theme to reflect your personal interests and passions. If you are decorating on a budget, start with small updates such as paint and wall decor. Enhance kitchen items you already own with decorative items such as plants, flowers and textiles.

Instructions

1. Choose a kitchen decorating theme. Pick a style to coordinate with the rest of your home or to accommodate an antique, plate or any other type of collection. For instance, go with a Tuscan theme if you love wine or a retro theme if you collect vintage diner-inspired pieces.

2. Paint the kitchen walls to match the decor theme. For a rustic Tuscan theme, cover the walls with a neutral, farmhouse-inspired color such as earthy taupe or sage green. Splash a cherry red or fresh white shade on the walls of a retro kichen.

3. Choose a theme-appropriate kitchen table set. Pick a rough-hewn wood table featuring reclaimed barn wood if the kitchen has a Tuscan flair. Set up a charming retro diner table set featuring a red Formica top and shiny chrome legs.

4. Enhance the kitchen with themed decor pieces. Decorate a Tuscan-themed kitchen with vintage wine bottles filled with fresh flowers. Hang faux grape vines around doorways and windows. Display a large hand-painted mural featuring the Tuscan countryside. Play into a retro theme with light-up neon diner signs. Set up a jukebox spinning retro favorites in an empty corner. Replace worn-out flooring with shiny black and white square tiles.

5. Choose decorative textiles. Enhance a Tuscan-style dinner table with wine-hued place mats and cloth napkins. Hang vintage cherry-patterned cotton curtains in a retro-inspired kitchen.
