Download Compact disc Information From Music Databases

Music publishers and software manufacturers use online music databases like Gracenote to provide users with accurate track listings and artist information for virtually any music CD available on the market. Programs like iTunes, Sonicstage, WinAMP and the Yahoo! Music Jukebox, among others, all use Gracenote and other databases for these purposes. What many don't realize is that if these programs don't automatically download the appropriate information about a CD, you can do it yourself.

Instructions

1. Open your music management software. This includes programs like iTunes and Windows Media Player.

2. Put a music CD in your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. After a few moments, the program will automatically recognize the CD. A few moments later, the program should automatically connect to the Internet and download the appropriate CD information from the music database. You can then listen to the CD or import it to your computer's hard drive.

3. Right click on a song and select "Get Information." Note that certain programs will call this option "Get Track Information" or some other variation rather than "Get Information."

If you have a song file on your computer that doesn't already have the appropriate information associated with it, you can force your music management program to connect to a music database and download this information by right clicking on the song and selecting "Get Information."

4. Go to the web page of a music database, like Gracenote.com, and locate the information manually. If all other methods fail, go to the main database web page and search for the album or song whose information you are trying to find. Then, locate the MP3 song file on your computer and right click on it and select "Properties." You can then manually enter the CD information into the information associated with that song file. This method ensures that you're getting correct information pertaining to song titles, album titles, band names and band member names.
