Download Music From Itunes Library For An Mp3

Convert your M4P tracks to MP3s.

iTunes is a great music downloading and organizing software made by Apple for use on both Macs and PCs. However, one little-known fact is that when you purchase music through iTunes, it automatically downloads in a special AAC or M4P format, which will not play on any MP3 player other than the iPod. Fortunately, there is a way to convert your M4P tracks to MP3s. First, the settings much be changed in the iTunes program on your computer. Then, you must burn your music to disc and reinstall it on your iTunes.

Instructions

1. Open the iTunes program on your computer and click open the "Preferences" menu. For PC, this is found under the Edit menu. For Mac, it is found under the main iTunes menu. Once you have opened the Preferences menu, click on the "General" tab, which will be present in both the Mac and PC version of iTunes.

2. Click the "Import Settings" button, which is located to the right of the "When you insert a CD" drop down menu. When the "Import Settings" menu opens, click on the arrow to display a drop down menu next to "Import Using" and select "MP3 Encoder." This is also the same for both Mac and PC versions of iTunes. Click "OK" to save your changes.

3. Right click on the a song in your library if you are using a PC, or press the "Control" key on your keyboard and click on a song. Select "Convert to MP3." You will get a pop-up box that tells you the song cannot be converted because it is in a protected format.

4. Insert a blank burnable audio CD into your CD burner. Check the box next to the songs you want to move to your MP3 player and press the "Burn to Disc" button. You can also burn an entire playlist to a disc by right clicking on the playlist title and selecting "Burn Playlist to Disc."

5. Open the CD you just burnt in iTunes. Transfer the songs from the CD back into iTunes. You will now have two copies of each song.

6. Right click on the song and select "Convert Selection to MP3." Remember, you must convert the song from the CD you burnt, not the original because the original is still protected.

7. Plug your MP3 player into your computer using the USB port. You will see the name of your MP3 player appear in the left-hand bar of iTunes. If it is the first time you are connecting your MP3 player to iTunes, it will ask you to name your MP3 player. Drag the songs you converted to MP3 into the MP3 folder. When you are finished, right click the name of your MP3 player and select "Eject," so you can safely remove the device.
