Not so long ago not everyone had a computer and when you wanted new music you left your house and went to the local music store. But times have changed. Now buying CDs seems almost like a novelty purchase, and music lives out its life as an MP3 file on a computer. Because of this, downloading music has become a simple procedure, especially on Mac computers, which are designed to be glitch-free and easily navigable.
Instructions
1. Open the iTunes program on your Mac. If your Mac is less than eight years old, iTunes came with the initial computer software package. If you already listen to music through your computer, iTunes is probably the program you use. Often times when you open iTunes it prompts you to install new updates; take the few minutes to do this and then restart the program as instructed. Itunes updates often add features that make listening and downloading music even simpler.
2. Click on the "iTunes store" label under the "STORE" heading on the left sidebar of the iTunes program. Along the sidebar you should see other headings such as "LIBRARY," "GENIUS" and "PLAYLISTS." If you don't see the "STORE" heading on the iTunes program itself, you can also access it through the menu bar on the top of the screen, which should have a drop down menu labeled "store."
3. Create an account if you don't already have one. You can do this by clicking the "sign in" tab located at the top right corner of your iTunes program or by clicking the "store" drop-down menu and selecting "Create Account." If you already have an account then make sure to sign in.
4. Find the songs you want to download. The iTunes store provides a great platform for searching for music even if you don't know what you want. If you know what you want simply type in the name in the search bar and it should come up. If you're feeling more exploratory, you can go to the "music" section of the iTunes store and browse through various categories, including "New and Noteworthy," "What's Hot," "Indies" and many more. You can also explore by looking at similar artists to artists you already know you like, which is a good way to find new music to add to your collection.
5. Buy the songs or albums you want. Once you've decided what you want to download, all you have to do is click "buy song" or "buy album." Prices for songs and albums vary, but generally hover around 99 cents a song, and usually you get a deal on albums. Once you buy the music, iTunes will download it to your "LIBRARY" where you can play it to your heart's content. If you have a portable music player, such as an iPod, you'll also be able to upload the music onto it without much trouble.
