Now that we're been using iTunes for years to store and categorize our songs, most of us have acquired some duplicate music. As long as you have plenty of room on your computer hard drive, there is no harm done, but if you prefer a tidy music library, duplicates can be annoying. Using built-in features in iTunes, you can easily identify and evaluate duplicate songs to clean up your music library.
Instructions
1. Launch iTunes on your computer. Select "Music" under the Library heading in the left navigation panel of iTunes to display all the songs in the iTunes Library.
2. Click the "File" menu and select "Show Duplicates" from the drop-down menu. ITunes displays a list of songs it believes are duplicates. ITunes include songs that are on a multiple albums. For instance, if you have two different albums by the Beatles and some of the songs are on both albums, those songs are displayed as possible duplicates.
3. Review the list of suspected duplicates. Look at the artist, name of the song and length to identify any exact duplicates. Delete any songs that you no longer wish to keep in your iTunes music library.
4. Click the "Display All" button at the bottom of the iTunes window when you're ready to return to your entire music library. You can also select "Display All" from the "File" menu.
