Fix A Classic Jukebox For 45 Records

As juke boxes age, the records or mechanisms can degrade.

As older jukeboxes that play 45 records (or records that spin at 45 rotations per minute) get older than they already are, normal wear and tear may affect the quality of the sound. Record degradation, mechanism wear and and the build-up of debris all affect the jukebox. By replacing records that skip or no longer play, keeping the moving parts in working order and keeping the inside clean and free of objects, one can keep their jukebox for 45 RPM records in top playing condition.

Instructions

1. Replace individual records when they wear down (this will happen quicker to the records played more often). Use the screwdriver or ratchet to open the back of the jukebox, and release the latch of the glass front. Lift the glass up to access the records, and remove the record that skips or does not play.

2. Brush the record cleaner brush over the top and bottom of the record, and inspect its surface. If the bumps in the tracks are worn half size (compare to newer records), replace the record with a newer version of the same record and slide it into the same slot.

3. Inspect the mechanisms of the arms for lubrication by listening to them when they move. Lubricate with WD-40 or similar spray if they make noise or drag. Replace worn bolts or screws showing any signs of rust with new bolts or screws.

4. Clear away any debris like broken record pieces, large dirt particles or hair. Use the compressed air canister to blow the dust around and then out of the machine. Close the glass latch, then replace the back casing and re-install the screw or bolt.
