Hard Totally reset A Microsoft Zune

A hard reset can make a seemingly broken Zune seem new again.

If you own a personal audio player such as a Microsoft Zune, from time to time the hard drive may become excessively cluttered and slow, or might cease to function altogether. This can turn your fun, portable personal audio jukebox into a lump of metal. If this has happened to your Zune, performing a hard reset could fix the player. Be careful, however, as a hard reset will erase all of your data: make sure you have exhausted all other alternatives before attempting this procedure.

Instructions

1. Unlock the "Hold" switch on your Zune if it is locked.

2. Press and hold the "Back" button and the top of the Zune pad simultaneously. When the Zune powers on, release the buttons.

3. Press and hold down a combination of buttons, depending on your model of Zune.

For the 30GB Zune, press and hold the "Back" button while pressing the left of the Zune pad and the center of the Zune pad. Hold these buttons until your Zune restarts and displays "Please Wait."

If you have any other model of Zune, press and hold the "Back" button, the center of the Zune pad and the "Play/Pause" button. Hold these buttons down until "Please Wait" appears.

4. Connect the Zune to your computer with the USB cable when the message "Connect Zune to your PC" appears. Power on your Zune, and, if you have the Zune software installed, a window will pop up. Update your Zune to the current software version.
