How Connect My Computer & Ipod device To Some Loudspeakers

How Can I Connect My Computer & iPod to One Set of Speakers?

These days, a good set of speakers can make your computer into a one-stop home media center. However, if you want to use your iPod at the same time as your computer, you can't just plug both of them into the same set of speakers. Luckily, there's a way to configure your equipment so that both the iPod and computer can use one set of speakers at the same time.

Instructions

1. Connect your computer to the speakers the way you normally would. To do this, connect the speakers' input wire to the pale green audio jack on the back of your computer (if your computer's jacks are not color coded, look for the "line out" or "speaker" jack). If you have speakers with more than two channels, refer to the owners' manual for instructions on connecting the additional channels.

2. Plug your audio extension cable into the iPod or other external audio device. Plug the other end into the pale blue audio jack on the back of your computer. This is the "line in" jack; if your computer does not have one, you can use the microphone jack, which is pink.

3. Double-click the speaker volume icon in the system tray (typically in the lower-righthand corner of the screen on the taskbar). This will bring up the system mixer, which allows you to adjust the volume of each device on the system.

4. Set the Line-In volume to zero and make sure it isn't muted. Start some music playing on your iPod. Gradually raise the Line In volume until the sound reaches your preferred level of volume.

5. You can now play sound on the computer, and it will be mixed with the sound from the iPod. You can use the Line In volume to adjust the relative volumes of the iPod and computer audio.
