Music Inspired Teenage Room Ideas

Contribute to your teen's musical interest by re-designing his bedroom.

The teenage years are a pivotal time in an individual's development -- one that includes the emergence of new interests that could potentially last a lifetime and even lead to a vocation. If your teen is obsessed with music, encourage her interest by transforming her bedroom to reflect that passion. The specifics of the d cor should coincide with the genre of music your teenager is most enthusiastic about. For this reason, it is best to plan the room in conjunction with your teenager; what's more, the process is bound to make for a memorable bonding experience.

Sonic Decorating

Installing a jukebox in your teenager's room will give it a retro look that will certainly win her cool points among her friends. Allow her to stock the jukebox with her favorite music, so that actual music contributes to the room's overall ambiance. Be sure to throw in some "down tempo" music, as well, for sleeping.

Dance Floor

Build a small dance floor in the middle of your teen's bedroom so he and his friends can rock out to their favorite tunes. Dancing is a great way of getting exercise and focusing energy. All you need is a small disco ball and a safety mat, though you will certainly win bonus points if you add colored lights or even a strobe to the scheme.

D cor

The room's general d cor should reflect a music theme. This can vary, depending on the style of music your teen admires. If your teen is into gothic rock, then don't be shy about painting the room black. For classic rock n' roll enthusiasts, guitar-shaped throw pillows and golden record clocks might do the trick. A wide variety of music-themed bed sheets are available on the market, featuring everything from band logos to electric guitars. Classical music enthusiasts might appreciate a bust of Beethoven or Mozart.

Posters and Paraphernalia

Posters of your teen's favorite pop or rock stars can be purchased for fairly inexpensively at local music stores or over the Internet. If you have it in your budget to splurge, go for a mural. You can also go for a vinyl wall decal sticker depicting a rock n' roll icon, such as Jim Morrison, Prince, Jimi Hendrix or Kurt Cobain.
