My Ipod device Won't Connect

If you have tried repeatedly to connect your iPod to your computer and the device still refuses to show up on your screen, try a few basic troubleshooting methods so you can narrow down the possible problem. In some instances, your iPod might have a serious defect, but in most cases you should find that you can easily resolve the issue on your own.

Instructions

1. Reboot your iPod. In some cases, the device might suffer from simple glitches and just need a reset. Press down the "Menu" and "Select" buttons at the same time and hold them until the screen lights up. If you use an iPod Touch, hold down the only two buttons on the device, one of which appears on the front and the other at the top.

2. Recharge. A failure to connect could indicate a dead battery, so plug your iPod into your wall or computer and let it sit for about two to four hours. Then retry your connection.

3. Connect your iPod to your computer and then restart your computer. This technique will sometimes cause your computer to locate devices previously unable to connect, according to the tech website MethodShop.

4. Determine whether the problem only exists in iTunes. If you see the device on your desktop (Mac) or in your "My Computer" folder (Windows), but not in iTunes, then the problem is an iTunes problem, not an iPod problem. Try updating iTunes by downloading the latest version from Apple.com. If that doesn't work, delete iTunes completely from your computer and reinstall the software.

5. Try plugging your USB cable into a different port. In some cases, your failed connection might simply result from a bad USB port. Try unplugging the cable and plugging it into the next available port.
