Obtain A Thumb Drive Out Of My Computer

Upgrading your computer's memory is usually an easy and hassle-free process. Sometimes, however, your computer may not be compatible with a particular brand or memory, or the motherboard simply refuses to detect it. in this case, removal of the offending RAM stick is required. This is a fairly easy to do if you're comfortable opening your computer.

Instructions

1. Ground yourself. Wear a properly connected wrist strap to avoid damage to any sensitive computer components. Alternatively, touch the metal chassis of your computer while it is still plugged into the wall to discharge static electricity. Flip your power supply's switch off before you do this.

2. Open the case. Using the screwdriver, remove the screws that secure the side of the case. Slide the side panel off to reveal your computer's internal components.

3. Locate the RAM sockets. You should be able to find them right away, usually near the CPU. Refer to your motherboard's user manual if you're not sure where these are.

4. Unclip and remove the memory stick. Your RAM modules are secured with small locks on each side. Gently push them back and your memory stick will release. If you have a hard time seeing them, use a flashlight for a better view.

5. Remove the RAM. Gently pull the memory stick out of your computer. Hold the memory by pinching it on the sides. Never touch the gold-plated pins on the bottom of the stick.

6. Close your computer and power it back up. Your computer should boot normally.
