Plan A nineteen fifties Scrap booking Crop

Add Elvis to your 1950s scrapbooking crop for an authentic touch.

A scrapbooking crop is an ideal way to get friends together to share their scrapbooking hobby. Planning your scrapbooking around a 1950s theme also helps guests relive, or experience for the first time, one of the most memorable eras of American history. Incorporate icons of the 1950s, such as Elvis, a jukebox and a record player to help make your scrapbooking crop a fantastic and unforgettable event.

Instructions

1. Reserve a venue. A diner or historical building are good options for a 1950s theme. An old movie theater is another option. Your own home or a friend`s home might work well if you have enough seating.

2. Send out invitations or fliers. Invitations work best if you have an existing group of scrapbooking friends or if you know who you will invite ahead of time. Post fliers at local schools, libraries, grocery stores and scrapbook supply stores if you want to make the crop open to the community. Incorporate an image from the 1950s in your invitation or flier, such as a famous icon, Elvis, a jukebox, a record player or a picture of girls in poodle skirts. A black and white color combination works well for a 1950s theme. Invitations shaped like records are another appropriate and nostalgic choice.

3. Plan a period-specific menu. Picnics, barbecues and home-cooked meals were common during the 1950s. If the crop will only last a few hours, plan a meal based around common appetizers like roll-ups and cheese balls. Some examples include dried beef rolls, sausage and potato rolls, ham and egg balls, pinwheels, cream cheese and ham balls and ham and egg balls. For a crop that lasts all day, possible entrees include kabobs, baked ham, chicken pot pie and salmon casserole. If you are having your crop at a diner, a traditional meal of hamburger, French fries and milk shakes is acceptable and delicious.

4. Gather scrapbooking supplies. Create different stations around the crop area for cutting, using images, using scrapbooking graphic devices and looking for ideas. Provide as many common items as you can so your guests will have access to many different tools and embellishments. Make sure that each guest has adequate space to lay out her page on a table or other work surface. Make space for an area where guests can sell or trade some of their unwanted supplies to other guests.

5. Decorate the room. Keep the decorations minimal so they do not interfere with the function of the event. Add a few black and white balloons, old movie posters and pictures of Elvis, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and Frank Sinatra. Add a jukebox or record player to the room and play records of these and other famous singers of the 1950s. Hang records from the ceiling for a creative touch.

6. Organize games. Play musical chairs with doo wop music. Give guests the same supplies with a retro theme and present the person with the best layout with a prize. Have guests start a scrapbook page and then when a timer goes off, they move to another page and decorate it. Continue the process until they make it back to their original page.
