Play Itunes Files On A Music Player

Convert iTunes files to MP3 files so you can play them on on MP3 players other than iPods.

Files purchased from iTunes are in a special format that plays only on iPods and on iTunes software. However, you can use iTunes to convert the files to the MP3 format so that you can play them on other personal media playing devices, commonly called MP3 players. Once you convert the files, you can drag and drop the files to copy them, or you can use Windows Media Player to sync them to your MP3 player.

Instructions

1. Open iTunes on your computer. Select "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu. Click on the "General" tab and then click on the "Importing Settings" button in the bottom half of the menu.

2. Choose "MP3 Encoder" from the drop-down list at the top of the window. Click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the window. Then click "OK" at the bottom of the Preferences tab.

3. From your iTunes library, click on the song you want to convert. Select "Create MP3 Version" from the "Advanced" drop-down menu. A new copy of the file, in the MP3 format, will be created and placed in your iTunes library.

4. Connect the MP3 player to the computer and select "Open Folder to View Files" from the menu that pops up when the computer recognizes the MP3 player.

5. Open the folder that contains the MP3 version of the file you converted. Drag the MP3 file to the window that shows the contents of the MP3 player to copy the file to the player. When the files are copied, disconnect the MP3 player from the computer and play the songs.

Sync MP3 Files to MP3 Player with Windows Media Player

6. Import MP3 files into Windows Media Player. This may automatically happen when you run Windows Media Player, depending on which folder the files are in. If not, right-click on the blank area of the Windows Media Player window next to the play/pause/rewind buttons. Select "Add to Library" from the "File" section of the menu that pops up. Click on the "Add" button in the import dialog box, navigate to the folder where the files you want to import are located, and click on the "OK" button, then click on "OK" in the main import dialog.

7. Connect the MP3 player to the computer. Select the "Sync" tab in Windows Media Player. Verify that the software recognizes the MP3 device (it should list the device by name).

8. Select the Library section of Windows Media Player and find the files you want to copy to the MP3 player. Drag the songs to the "Sync" pane on the right side of the Windows Media Player window.

9. Click on the "Start Sync" button at the bottom of the Sync pane when you have completed the list of files you want to copy to the device. Watch as the files copy.

10. Disconnect the MP3 player and play the files on your player.
