Reinstall Your Old Windows Media Player 9 in XP


Windows Media Player enables you to playback videos, music, photos as well as upload files to devices such as a media player. WMP9 is an older player and includes a version for Windows XP. If you want to roll back to WMP 9, you can do so easily by removing the later versions that you are currently using on your computer.


Instructions


1. Uninstall the newver versions of Windows Media Player that you have on your computer. To do so, click the Windows "Start" menu and click the "Control Panel."


2. Double-click "Add or Remove Programs" to launch the installed programs list. Click the "Show updates" check-box located on the top of the window.


3. Scroll down the list of installed programs and click Windows Media Player 11 if you have it installed on your computer. Click "Remove" and click "OK" to uninstall the application. Click "Windows Media Format 11 Runtime" and click "Remove." When you complete the uninstallation, WMP 11 rolls back to WMP 10. Click Windows Media Player 10 and click "Remove" to uninstall it from your computer. Once you uninstall both versions, Windows Media Player automatically rolls back to WMP 9.


4. Go to the WMP 9 download page if you if the media player does not roll back (see Resources). Click the "Windows Media Player 9 (XP)" download link. Right-click the yellow ActiveX toolbar that pop-ups and click "Download File." When prompted, click "Save" download the installation file to your desktop.


5. Double-click the WMP 9 installation file on the desktop and click "Run" to launch the installation wizard. Follow the guided prompts to complete the installation.
