Reorganize Your Own Music In Itunes 8

Reorganizing your music in iTunes is easy once you have entered all the appropriate track information. To enter the name of the artist, song, album or genre, simply highlight the track and then click on the box where you want to enter information. A cursor will appear and you will be able to type the information. Now you can organize your music in a variety of ways.

Instructions

1. You can arrange your library according to artist, song title, genre, album, or play count. To organize by artist, simply select the artist tab at the top of the window. iTunes will then sort your music alphabetically by artist, beginning with A. If you want the letter Z to appear first, click the Artist tab again. This will reverse the alphabetical order. The same applies to arrangements by song title, genre, or album. If you choose to sort your songs according to Play Count, then the most-listened to tracks will appear first. To reverse the order and show your least-played tracks first, click the Play Count tab twice.

2. Create individual playlists for parties, workouts, or road trips. To create a playlist, simply select "New Playlist" in the File menu. Give your playlist a title. To add music to a playlist, return to the library and find tracks you want to include. Click and drag the track to the playlist. To move multiple tracks at once, hold click and press shift to highlight multiple tracks. Then drag them all into a playlist. Once your tracks are in a playlist, you can move them around to change their order.

3. Create Smart Playlists that will automatically add songs according to a certain criteria. Select "New Smart Playlist" from the File menu, and then choose the criteria. You can create a playlist devoted to a certain artist, a certain play count, or simply the most played or most recently added tracks. You can also select a limit to the number of tracks you want included in the playlist.

4. You can change the way your music appears by changing the "view." Three small icons appear at the top right of the iTunes window. If you select the one on the left, your tracks will appear in a simple list format. If you select the middle icon, your music will appear in rows, represented by its album art. If you select the far right icon, your music will once again be represented by its album art, but in a kind of jukebox view with a list below. Whichever way you choose to display your music, you can always use the search function at the top right of the window to easily find individual tracks.
