Restore Zen Xtra Firmware

You can perform a firmware reinstall to fix performance issues and errors.

The Creative Zen Xtra is a media player that supports audio files and play lists. In addition, you can use the device to store data files by using its included NOMAD Explorer application. If you start to have problems with your Zen Xtra or it freezes when you try to play songs, you may need to restore its firmware. Restoring the firmware deletes all data on your device and reinstalls the operating system to its factory condition.

Instructions

1. Download the firmware update for your Zen Xtra (see Resource). Fully charge your device and keep the power cable connected. Turn your Zen Xtra off and disconnect its USB cable from your computer.

2. Press and hold your player's "Play" button and insert a paper clip or pin into the reset button near your player's "Volume" buttons to enter "Rescue" mode and erase any current firmware.

3. Reconnect the USB cable to your Zen Xtra and to your computer. Double-click the firmware file you downloaded and follow the instructions that appear. Click "Upgrade" to install the firmware on your device. The firmware restore completes when your player restarts.
