Use Rhythmbox on an iPod
Rhythmbox is a free music management program similar to Apple's iTunes that runs on the Linux operating system. Rhythmbox is also the default audio player for Ubuntu, a popular Linux distribution. Using Rhythmbox, you can connect your iPod to your Linux computer and manage your music library by adding songs to your iPod, creating iPod playlists and removing songs from your iPod.
Instructions
1. Connect your iPod to your computer's USB port. Rhythmbox will automatically launch.
2. In Rhythmbox, enter the path for the location that you are storing your music files or library, then click the "Forward" button.
3. Click "Apply" for Rhythmbox to open your music library.
4. Click "iPod" from the sources list on the left of the screen. Rhythmbox displays the contents of your iPod on the screen. You'll see details for each track such as Artist, Genre, Album and Playing Time.
5. Play a song stored on your iPod by double-clicking on a track. Repeat a song by clicking the "Repeat" button. Shuffle songs by selecting songs and clicking the "Random" button.
6. Add a song to your iPod by clicking on the track and dragging it to the iPod icon on the left of the screen.
7. Remove a song by clicking on the track and selecting "Move to Trash" from the pop-up menu.
8. Create a Playlist by selecting "Playlist" from the "Music" menu. Pick songs for the playlist using the drop-down menu options and selection text boxes, the click the "New" button. Drag the playlist to the iPod icon on the left of the screen.
9. Disconnect your iPod by going to your desktop, clicking the iPod icon and selecting "Eject" from the pop-up menu. You can now safely remove the iPod from your computer.
