Clean A Classic Record

Old records may have some of the best music, but they can accumulate some of the worst build-up or dust and grime, obscuring the music in the process. Getting these records back to working condition is not an overwhelming task, however--a spare toothbrush is all you really need to get your music back better than ever. Read on to learn clean an old record.

Instructions

1. Wipe down your records with a clean, lint-free cloth, to get rid of any excess dust.

2. Wet a toothbrush lightly with the solution, and gently work the bristles through the grooves, from the inside out. After one cycle in this manner, repeat this process once more.

3. Repeat Step 2, but while holding the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the record.

4. Rinse thoroughly, under clean running water, preferably distilled. Wipe the record clean, in the direction of the grooves, with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth--a clean diaper works well.

5. Let air-dry. A common dish rack does wonders for this step. Afterwards, store your records in new, clean sleeves. The old sleeves may transmit more grunge and mildew.
