Philips GoGear software -- the Philips Device Manager -- requires Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or later to operate. With the Device Manager properly installed, you can update the firmware on your GoGear MP3 player. The Device Manager is available on the installation CD that came with the GoGear player. If you no longer have the installation CD, you can download the latest version of the software online. Whether you are having problems with the Philips GoGear internal hard disk software or the software used to manage the player, either is fixable with proper installation and updates.
Instructions
1. Download and install the latest version of Philips' Device Manager on your computer. Outdated versions of the software may fail to operate correctly. The software comes in the installation package for your particular Philips GoGear model. Click on the link (see Resources) and choose your GoGear model. Then select "Software & Drivers" and click the link to download the software programs. Click the "Setup.exe" file in the downloaded folder and allow the program to install on your computer.
2. Close all applications on your computer, including Windows Media Player. Other programs will interfere with the Device Manager.
3. Connect the Philips GoGear to the AC/DC adapter and plug it into the power supply. Also connect the Philips GoGear to the computer using its USB cable.
4. Open Philips Device Manager by selecting it from the "All Programs" folder in the desktop start menu, or double-click the software icon in the task bar on your desktop.
5. Select the connected Philips GoGear in the Device Manager dialogue box. Click "Update." The Device Manager software will automatically check for any available GoGear software updates.
6. Select "Yes" to download any listed updates. The software will download the updates, then prompt you to install the updates on the GoGear. Click "Yes."
7. Click "OK" when prompted to complete the update.
8. Close the Device Manager when the update is complete. Then unplug the GoGear. If you were having problems with the GoGear firmware, power on the device and verify that it is operating correctly.
