Small Home Bar Ideas

Draught beer is still a possibility in a home bar.

Many homeowners dream of equipping their residence with its very own bar, where they get to pick the vibe and pour the drinks. Not all houses or apartments have ample space for a fully functioning bar; however, there are several ways to cut back on the physical space required without losing the quality or feel of the real thing.

Small Flat-Screen TV

For just about every type of home bar, a small flat-screen television is a useful investment. These days, a small-sized flat-screen TV is both simple to attach and takes up no more space than a picture frame. Especially for those attempting to recreate a sports bar, the ability to watch the games from the bar itself is essential. The TV can also be used for watching films or playing music videos during a small party. Flat-screen TVs can be found for a fraction of what they cost even a few years ago, and can even be put away when not in use.

Draught Dispenser

It's hard to argue against the convenience of having fresh beer right from the tap. Of course, even an average bar has a large, complex system for providing draught beer, but that doesn't have to be the case at home. There are several kinds of home draught beer dispensers available that are no larger than a coffeemaker. Although most only provide one tap and one flavor of beer, the ability to fill up a cold glass and pass it down really adds an authentic touch. Not to mention that the taste of a draught beer is very distinct and until recently, could only be found at the local pub.

Liquor Cabinet/Bar

The standard bar is usually dozens of feet long with an array of liquor bottles behind it. While a small home bar isn't designed to serve as many people, it's still possible to have a wide selection of beverages available. The best solution is to purchase a liquor cabinet/bar all in one piece. While the counter area can be used to set down a drink or rest an elbow, the inside can hold bottles, glasses and other items. This setup saves a significant amount of space, and will be useful as a supply cabinet when the room is not in full bar-mode.

Mini-Jukebox

It's hard to have a bar without music and there are several different ways to get the tunes flowing. Many rooms may already have stereo setups, but for more of a bar feeling, a mini-jukebox is a great idea. Many of these are now made to play both CDs and MP3s, and can be plugged into external speakers for a full surround sound. These players add a lot of charm and fun to a room, especially a room with a home bar. Walking over to a jukebox to put on a song is in itself is a classic bar maneuver that simply can't be replicated with the average boom box or stereo.
