Rome is known for its historical attractions like the Coliseum.
Rome is the capital of Italy and the largest metropolitan city in the country. With its rich history, it is a well-traveled destination. Since it's such a large city, it can be overwhelming trying to decide where to stay when traveling. There are, however, some particularly good areas that will allow you to explore all that the city has to offer.
Piazza Navona
Piazza Navona is in the center of Rome's historic district, just west of the Pantheon. It is one of Rome's many squares, or piazzas, and is filled with many historical fountains and statues, including the Fountain of the Four Rivers, considered one of the area's main attractions. Along with its historical interest, Piazza Navona has a lively night life, outdoor cafes on the square and many restaurants.
Trastevere
Trastevere was once a working-class area in Rome but has recently become gentrified and boasts many new hotels and other places to stay. It is equidistant from the Coliseum and the Vatican. Along with plenty of hotels, Trastevere has many unique bars, restaurants and boutiques. It is one of the best places to stay if you want to be close to main attractions but do not wish to be in the heart of the city.
Via Veneto
Via Veneto is in Rome's modern center. This was an extremely popular location in the 1950s and 1960s. It experienced a downturn in the 1980s but is now a popular place to stay once again. Located close to major attractions like the Trevi Fountain, Via Veneto is also within walking distance of the Coliseum and the Vatican. Streets in the neighborhood are lined with luxury hotels, restaurants and shops. This neighborhood caters to travelers looking for a high-end place to stay.
