Upgrade The Harddrive Inside Your Archos Jukebox

The Archos Jukebox was one of the first high capacity mp3 players on the market. They are durable, can read most types of audio files and are recognized as an extra hard drive by Windows, so there is no need for a separate application to add music. The Jukebox came in 20 GB configurations. If you need more space, or if the hard drive has failed, you can replace it yourself.

Instructions

Upgrading the Hard Drive in Your Archos Jukebox

1. Place the Jukebox face down on a firm surface. Do not attempt this repair while holding the Jukebox.

2. Remove the batteries from either side of the Jukebox by removing the side panels.

3. Remove the four Torx head screws that hold the back in place.

4. Remove the four screws on the bottom and the top of the Jukebox using your Phillips head screw driver. There are two screws next to the USB connector and two next to the headphone connector.

5. Remove the four black plastic bumpers at the corners of the Jukebox. This will cause the metal plates on the bottom of the Jukebox to bend slightly, but don't panic. It will bend back into place easily.

6. Remove the hard drive. After removing the bumpers, the hard drive will be completely unobstructed. Carefully pull the old hard drive out, being careful not to touch any other electronic components.

7. Slide your new hard drive into place. The new 2.5-inch hard drive should slide easily into place. If it will not, do not force it. You may have the wrong size or there may be something blocking the drive. Double check all components before trying again.

8. Bend the bottom metal plates back into place and replace bumpers.

9. Replace the bottom and top screws, then replace the four Torx screws from the back. Replace the batteries and recharge completely.
