Convert Itunes Protected Video Clips

While iTunes sells a wide variety of videos, their DRM-protected M4V format prohibits the user from transferring or burning the files, only letting you watch them on iTunes and iPods. Luckily, converting these iTunes protected videos to AVI, MPEG and other unprotected formats is easy to do--although it's not free, unfortunately. You can move, edit and watch the resulting videos on a wide variety of platforms.

Instructions

1. Download and install the trial version of DRMBuster from the link in Resources below. The trial version will convert up to three minutes of video at a time. For full functionality, you will need to purchase the paid version. Sadly, no equal freeware exists.

2. Open the program. If an automated dialogue box pops up asking you to select your iTunes video, click "Cancel." You need to configure your settings first.

3. Click the "Settings" button in the upper-right hand corner of the main window. Choose the video format you wish to convert to (AVI, MPEG, WMV, or iPod MP4) and the size. Look over the other settings if you wish to change the output location, audio quality and automated processes. Click "OK" to save your changes.

4. Click the "Select Files" button in the upper-left of the main window. Find your iTunes-protected video file or files and click "Open."

5. The file should begin converting automatically. The video itself will begin playing while the program converts it in real-time. If it does not, click the orange "Convert" button near the top of your screen. The process should take several minutes.
