VideoLAN's VLC Player is a lightweight yet powerful media player program. VLC includes built-in support for many audio formats, and installing additional coder-decoders, or codecs, adds support for nearly any compression algorithm you're likely to come across. You can even use VLC to convert audio from one format to another. If, for example, you've ripped your CD collection into the high-quality FLAC format, you can then convert the tracks to MP3s that your personal media device can play.
Instructions
1. Double-click VLC Player's desktop icon to launch it. Click "Media," then click "Convert / Save."
2. Click "Add," then navigate to the audio file you want to convert and double-click it. Click "Convert / Save" to open the conversion window.
3. Click "Browse" and navigate to the folder in which you want to save the converted audio. Type in a filename for the audio file, and include the extension corresponding to the format into which you're converting it. For example, if you're converting the track "MySong" to an MP3, type "MySong.mp3." Click "Save."
4. Click the "Profile" drop-down menu. Click on the format into which you want to convert the audio. Click "Start" to convert the audio file into the desired format.
