Convert An Mp3 For An Audiobook File

Convert MP3 files to audio book format.

If you have downloaded or purchased audio books in MP3 format, you might need to convert them to the more common M4B (MPEG-4 Audio Book File) format to be able to play them on your iPod or personal electronic device. Both MP3 and M4B files contain MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) compression. Convert MP3 files to M4B format in iTunes or using file conversion software.

Instructions

In iTunes

1. Go to the "iTunes" menu at the top of the screen and select "Preferences." A new window will open.

2. Click "Import Settings" in the "General" tab.

3. Select "AAC Encoder" in the "Import Using" menu and then click "OK."

4. Find the MP3 track in your music library that you want to convert to an audio book file. Highlight it.

5. Go to the "Advanced" menu at the top of the screen and click "Create AAC Version." You will find a new M4A version of your track in the music library, a format similar to the M4B audio book format, compressed with AAC advanced audio coding.

6. Drag the M4A track to your desktop and change the file's extension to M4B. Return the song to your library, and iTunes will recognize it as an audio book file.
