The SWF (Small Web Format) video container format, pronounced "Swiff," was the proprietary format for Adobe's Flash video player. The format is typically used for short online videos or animations (fileinfo.com). To make SWF files compatible with Windows Media Player, your best bet is to convert the SWF file into a WMV, which is the standard format for the media jukebox (fileinfo.com). The easiest way to convert between SWF and WMV is by using a software conversion program.
Instructions
1. Open a web browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.
2. Navigate to a website that contains SWF to WMV file conversion software.
3. Download the software. If possible, locate a trial version of the software before completing a purchase.
4. Install and run the software. Agree to the terms and conditions of the software.
5. Select "Open," "Browse" or "Choose File" and locate the SWF file you wish to convert.
6. Select "WMV" or "Windows Media Video" as your output format. In some conversion software, you'll find this option in the "Settings" menu.
7. Select a location on your hard drive for the new WMV file to appear once the conversion is complete.
8. Click "Capture," "Convert" or "Start" to begin the conversion. The new SWF file will appear in the folder you selected in Step 7 after the conversion is done.
