Music players can be used to organize and listen to your library of music.
Music players are pieces of software that can be used to organize and play music files from your collection. Many different music players are available, but some of the most common are iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp Media Player and Jaangle. These programs can be used to create playlists and arrange your music in any way you choose. Most music players can also be used to rip audio content from CDs.
Windows Media Player
Windows Media Player is included with any computer running a Windows operating system and features support for many different formats for audio and video, such as MP3 and WMA. Windows Media Player 12 includes a "Play to" button, which can be used to stream media to other PCs on your network or to other compatible devices. The "Now Playing" mode offers a minimalistic view of the required controls and information, including the track name, volume, stop, pause and skip buttons. You can also use Windows Media Player to rip songs directly from CDs to add to your music library and burn new CDs filled with songs from that library. The media player also features a "Sync" function, which enables you to update portable music devices using Windows Media Player 12.
iTunes
The iTunes software is distributed with iPod or iPhone devices and is often used simply as a means to get music onto a portable music device. The iTunes software features controls that allow the user to rip songs from a CD and burn new CDs from music stored in the music library. Use iTunes to create playlists from your media library, which can then be downloaded directly onto your portable music device. The iTunes program can also be used to access its music store, which features many albums and songs available for legal download. This makes it easier to get new music onto your music player.
Winamp Media Player
The Winamp Media Player has similar functions compared with the other music players listed, including the ability to create playlists; browse through your music by genre, rating, artist or album; and rip music from and burn music to CDs. Winamp also can be upgraded with different skins (designs for the player), add-ons and visualizations. The media player supports most audio and video formats, including MP3, WMA and AAC.
Jaangle
Jaangle features many of the same functions as the other music players, with the addition of an "Auto-DJ" and the ability to control how the program appears. The Auto-DJ function selects songs at random from your collection, and when each song is playing, biographical information about the artist is brought up within the player. This can teach you about your favorite artists as you listen. You can set Jaangle into "Mini-Mode" so you can't see the large player window on your screen, and you can edit the different components of the display to suit your needs.
