The Archos 5 is a digital media player small enough to fit in your pocket. If you've been having problems with the screen or battery, or need to replace a part, you can open up the unit and try to diagnose the problem. The small size of the unit makes this a delicate process, so do it carefully. Even proceeding slowly, the whole process shouldn't take longer than a few minutes.
Instructions
1. Turn off your Archos and turn the unit over. Slide the battery door off of the unit and remove the battery.
2. Peel off the sticker on the bottom of the battery compartment to reveal a screw. Remove the screw.
3. Remove the two screws next to the slot on the bottom of the unit and the single screw on the top of the unit next to the headphone jack.
4. Push each of the plastic guards on the corners of the unit up until you hear a click.
5. Insert your case opener tool in the seam where the back half of the unit meets the front. Work your way around the unit until the two halves separate. Set the front half aside.
6. Lift the screen and circuit board assembly out of the back half of the unit and set the back half aside.
7. Turn the assembly over and the square hard drive will be visible connected to the board. Use your screwdriver to remove the corner screws holding the hard drive in place. Then unplug the hard drive from its port on the board and set it aside. The screen cable will now be visible where the hard drive used to sit.
8. Unplug the orange screen cable from its port on the board and remove the screen from the opposite side of the board.
