Holidays Spots In Tennessee

Tennessee offers a range of vacation spots from the wilderness to the city.

Tennessee's vacation spots range from the wilderness to the city and include historical tours, outdoor excursions, nightlife and more. Individuals and families visit this state to experience high energy vacations or just to relax and enjoy the scenery. Some vacation ideas include hiking, wine tours, Civil War battlefield visits and Tennessee's own theme park, Dollywood.

Hiking and Outdoors

Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers hiking, camping, bicycling, picnicking and other outdoor vacations.

Frontcountry and backcountry campgrounds dot the park, which also boasts group campgrounds for eight people or more. Hikers choose from more than 800 miles of frontcountry and backcountry trails suitable for novices and experienced backpackers. The National Park Service also recommends a bicycling tour of Cades Cove, an 11-mile road suitable for scenic tours of wildlife and 19th century homes.

Tourists may stay at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for the duration of their trip or for one-day excursions to picnic, view the scenery and get a breath of fresh air.

Wine Tours

The Tennessee Spirits and Wine Trail follows five wineries and distilleries throughout the middle of the state. Founded in 2003, the Beans Creek Winery offers red, white and fruit wines. The George Dickel Distillery prides itself on the only combination post office and whiskey distillery in the United States.

Along the Spirits and Wine Trail route is the Jack Daniel Distillery, with the longest-running production of whiskey in the country. Prichard's Distillery offers rum of different flavors, and finally, the Tri-Star Vineyards boast 40 years' experience producing wines.

The site of many Civil War battles, Tennessee hosts reenactments, museums and historical tours to commemorate those who fought in the war. For example, the Shiloh National Military Park established in 1894 hosts reenactments, monuments and an interpretive center that teaches visitors about the railroad at Corinth, a point of military strategy during 1862.
