Learning to troubleshoot your own HP LaserJet 2000TN printer can save you both time and money. Professional service for a mid-size laser printer like the 2000TN can be quite expensive and time-consuming. By learning to recognize the symptoms of an impending problem, you can head off larger issues down the road. Listening to the noises the printer makes is one of the best ways to diagnose problems. A strange noise is often the first sign of trouble with this model of printer.
Instructions
1. Open the front door of the printer by grasping the handle and pulling it straight toward you. Remove the toner cartridge and check the bottom flap to make sure it is not stuck. If the flap is stuck, the printer will make a grinding noise as the paper moves against it.
2. Place the toner cartridge back in the printer and close the front door. Send a test job to the printer.
3. Open the paper tray and remove all of the paper from the tray. Fill the tray half way and make sure the paper guides fit snugly against the paper. If the paper is not properly positioned, it will feed into the printer skewed and cause jams and grinding sounds.
4. Remove the paper from the tray and fan it thoroughly if it continues to jam. The HP LaserJet 2000TN can be very sensitive to moisture in the paper. That moisture can cause the pages to stick together as they move through the paper path.
