Media Gamers That May Add Music To My Phone

Modern cell phones can play music files on the go.

Many current cell phones have the capability to store and play MP3s or other music files. Media player software can make music file transfer to your phones a simple process, and there are several choices in programs available.

iTunes (Mac OSX, Windows)

Apple Computer's all-in-one media player does a thorough job and is compatible with a wide array of cell phone brands and models. The iTunes interface is streamlined and easy-to-use, and has been released for both Mac OSX and Windows.

Windows Media Player / Media Center (Windows)

There are two versions of Microsoft's proprietary media player software, and either one is installed by default on Windows PCs, depending on what version of Windows you are running. Both have a music library feature and can transfer music files to any phone that is recognized by the PC.

J. River Media Center / Media Jukebox (Windows)

J. River Media Center is a media player program with an emphasis on organization. A highly customizable macro-powered playlist system (known as SmartLists) allows you to set up automated syncs with your phone. Media Center isn't free, but a 30-day trial is available and an older version of the software, Media Jukebox, is free for download and includes many of the audio features and external device support.

Songbird (Windows, Mac OSX, Android, Unofficial Linux/Solaris Ports)

Songbird is an open source, Web-friendly media player that supports external media devices. It is multi-platform and free, making it widely accessible and easily available to users of different operating systems. Though it doesn't yet support every device, Songbird works with several phones, particularly the iPhone.

Your Operating System

Some phones can be plugged into your computer via USB cable and treated like any other external storage device. Simply plug your phone in and look for the appropriate music directory, then copy your music files over. Though there are no playlists to which your phone can sync, this is the simplest and quickest way to transfer music files.
