Trobleshoot and fix An Innovative Mp3 Mode Switch

Ensure that the Creative MP3 player is in the correct mode to download content. Mass storage mode enables you to utilize Windows Explorer to drag and drop content into the device's drive in the "My Computer" folder. Player mode enables you to play content, formulate playlists and transfer subscription-based content with media manager programs. By default, the Creative player is in player mode. If the player is in the wrong mode, the driver is incompatible, or there are hardware issues. The computer will not be able to recognize the player.

Instructions

1. Set up mass storage mode correctly. This mode should be set if you are transferring data from the computer to the Creative player with Windows Explorer. The player will not be able to play back subscription-based content that is transferred when in mass storage mode. To access this mode, select the "Menu/Back" button on the player. Select "Extra," If Extra is not available on your menu, choose "System," then "Player Settings" and "Options." Choose "Removable Disk." Connect the player to the computer. The "Removable Disk" icon should appear on the Creative screen. The player should also show up in the "My Computer" folder as a removable disk.

2. Return to player mode correctly. Player mode should play content, transfer subscription-based content, and organize and transfer content from the computer utilizing a software program, such as Windows Media Player, Creative MediaSource or Zen MicroExplorer. Files saved in the removable disk mode can't be viewed or managed with Creative MediaSource software. If in removable disk mode, click the "Safely Remove Disk" icon in the bottom of the desktop. Tap "Removable Disk" on the player LCD, and select "Back/Menu" to go back to player mode.

3. Install the correct driver. If Windows is having trouble recognizing the device, no matter which mode it is in, download new drivers from the Creative website. To download, find the Creative player on the chart and click on the location link. Then manually select the compatible driver based on your operating system.

4. Connect the USB cable to a different USB port. Sometimes USB ports wear out. Try inserting the USB cable into a different port. See if the computer is now able to recognize the player in mass storage and player mode.
