Bluetooth streaming apps let you move away from restrictive wired headphones.


The Android Market store is filled with apps that you can download to take advantage of Bluetooth capabilities on your Android-powered devices. Bluetooth Autoconnect, Songbird, XiiaLive - Online Radio and Car Music are among the highest-rated and most downloaded apps designed specifically for Bluetooth streaming, as of the date of publication.


Bluetooth Autoconnect


Bluetooth Autoconnect is an application for Android phones and tablets that lets you stream content between Bluetooth-enabled devices. Simply install the app and it will display available compatible Bluetooth devices around your location. Select the device you want to use -- such as a set of Bluetooth headphones or a computer with music files on it -- and the app will stream content between the devices. Bluetooth Autoconnect is 41 KB in size, costs around $1 and requires Android 2.1 or later, as of the date of publication.


Songbird


Songbird lets you use your Android device like a wireless jukebox. It uses Bluetooth technology to stream music on your phone that's stored on an external device like your computer, or to stream music stored on your phone on wireless Bluetooth headphones. The app's features include album art display, a screen lock, podcast support, playlist creation and a search tool. The application is available in 26 languages. Songbird is a free download that's 1.8MB and requires Android 2.1 or later, as of the date of publication.


XiiaLive - Online Radio


XiiaLive - Online Radio is an application that lets you stream more than 40,000 online radio stations on your Android-powered device and listen to them on Bluetooth headphones or a set of Bluetooth-enabled speakers. The app lets you organize, save, search and tag your favorite stations, set custom notifications for buffering and signal drops, add a sleep timer, control buffer lengths and create individual radio station shortcuts on your phone's home screen. Additional features include backup and restore utilities, open APIs and the ability to automatically start and stop streaming support to Bluetooth devices when a radio signal is lost. XiiaLive - Online Radio 4.4 MB in size, costs around $5 and requires Android 1.5 or later, as of the date of publication.


Car Music


Car Music is an application that lets you stream audio saved on your phone over your car's stereo system. The app has large buttons and a simple interface to make streaming music over a Bluetooth connection easier and safer while you drive. Car Music's features include playlist support, a sleep timer, brightness settings and a night mode for easier viewing in dark driving conditions. Car Music is 985KB, costs around $3 and requires Android 1.5 or later, as of the date of publication.
