Change Zune Family Permissions

The Microsoft Zune music software is a worthy media jukebox, even if you don't have the Zune hardware to go along with it. In addition to buying and/or subscribing to music and video, it organizes and catalogs your media collection. However, you might decide that not every member of your family should have access to every song or video. To that end, Microsoft has enabled parental controls, so that parents can be sure that what their children are viewing, listening to or downloading is appropriate for them.

Instructions

1. Start the Zune software on your computer. Log in to your Windows Live account and write down your User Nickname. If you don't have a Windows Live account, click "New Account" on the top of the page and create one. You'll need to enter your contact and credit card information, but you don't have to buy anything to create an account.

2. Log out of the Zune software by clicking "Log Out." Click "New Account" and create the child account. You will need to add contact information and choose a nickname, but do not add credit card information.

3. Click "Next" after the first information screen. Then sign in with your account from Step 1. This connects your account to the child's account. The Zune software will verify your credit card information. Click "Next" again.

4. Choose whether to allow your child to buy content from the store and/or access explicit content. Click the check-boxes next to the appropriate selections. Click "Next" to finish.

5. Repeat Steps 2 through 4 for any additional minors you wish to add to the Zune software on your computer.
