Convert Compact disc Audio Recordings To A Music Player

Transferring your CDs to MP3 format is easier than you may think.

Let's face it, CDs are becoming a thing of the past and if you've got an MP3 player you may be wondering if you'll have to start from scratch and scrap your CD collection. Don't fret, it's actually pretty easy to convert the music on your CDs to MP3 format so you can put them on your MP3 player. You can do so with Windows Media Player and Apple's iTunes.

Instructions

With Windows Media Player

1. Open Windows Media Player. Click on "Tools" in the top menu bar and click "Options." Navigate to the "Rip Music" tab. Click the "Format" drop-down box and choose "MP3" as the default format. You can also see here at the top where Windows Media Player will send your MP3 files, once converted.

2. Un-check the box that reads "Rip CD when inserted" so that Windows Media Player will allow you to choose which songs you wish to convert on each CD. Click "OK" and select the "Rip" tab near the top.

3. Insert your CD and un-check any songs you don't want to convert. Click "Start Rip" and wait as Windows Media Player converts your songs to MP3.

4. Connect your MP3 player to your computer as per your MP3 player's instructions.

5. Navigate to the folder Windows Media Player ripped the music to.

6. Click your desktop's "Start" button, click "Computer" and locate your MP3 player.

7. Navigate to the folder on the device where you put music.

8. Drag the ripped MP3 files to the MP3 player.

With iTunes

9. Open iTunes and go to "Edit," "Preferences" and select the "General" tab. You will see "When you insert a CD" and a drop-down box. Click "Import Settings," click the "Import Using" drop-down box and select "MP3 Encoder."

10. Under "Settings," select what quality you want your MP3 files to be. The lower the quality, the smaller the file, so finding a balance between size and quality is important. The average is between 160 kbps and 192 kbps. Once you've made your selection, click "OK" to return to iTunes.

11. Insert a CD into your CD drive and un-check any songs you do not wish to convert. Click "Import CD" in the lower-right corner and wait.

12. Locate where iTunes has placed your converted music. The default file path is C:Users\Your User Name Here\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music.

13. Plug your MP3 player in and turn it on as instructed in the documentation that came with your device. Click the "Start" menu, "Computer" and select your MP3 player. Navigate to the sub-folder you put music in.

14. Click "Start," "Music," "iTunes" and "iTunes Music," and drag and drop your music to your MP3 player's folder.
