Generate A Dell Pocket Dj

The Dell Pocket DJ is a capable alternative to older iPods.

The Dell Pocket DJ is slightly out of date by today's standards, but is still a solid music player that should meet your basic MP3 player needs. With its 5-GB hard drive, the Pocket DJ holds 25,001 songs, according to its manufacturer, and is a more portable alternative to the larger, heavier 20-GB Dell DJ. The player can be set up using a PC and the accessories that came in the package with the MP3 player, or with a Web browser if you don't have the original CD that came in the product box.

Instructions

1. Plug your charger into the wall with the other end plugged into your Pocket DJ's mini-USB port. Dell cautions against using the device without charging it for at least 2.5 hours. Using a Pocket DJ without charging it to capacity first could hurt battery life in the long run.

2. Insert the Dell Pocket DJ Product Software CD that came with the device in your computer's CD drive. If you don't have the CD, download the software from Dell's website. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the drivers and software needed for your device. Installing Musicmatch Jukebox 9.0 is optional. Don't install it if you plan on using Windows Media Player or another audio player with your device. Restart your computer after you have finished the software installation.

3. Connect your fully charged Pocket DJ to your computer's USB port using the provided cable. Any USB-to-mini-USB cable will work. You can now either use Musicmatch software, Windows Media Player or another computer music software to transfer music files to the device. Supported file types are WAV; WMA, including DRM-protected WMA files; and MP3. The Pocket DJ does not support iTunes AAC files. Another method of transfer is to open the Pocket DJ's hard drive under "My Computer" and drag and drop the files directly on to that icon.

4. Use the included Dell Pocket DJ Explorer software as another option to bring files to and from the device. The Pocket DJ has the capability to be used as a hard drive for nonmusic files as well, much as you might use a USB flash drive. To transfer files to another computer, simply plug in the Pocket DJ, select it as a hard drive under "My Computer," and drag and drop the files.

5. To listen to some music on your device, unplug it from the PC, plug in some headphones or speakers and select "My Library" from the main menu. You will now see any music files you have transferred. Select music files with the slider tool and you are ready to use the Pocket DJ for your listening pleasure.
