Digital cable television broadens your viewing menu.
Subscribers of digital cable can feast from a buffet of programming choices. Digital cable delivers high-definition broadcasts for local stations and cable networks. It affords flexible viewing through on-demand services, provides a gateway to news, sports, weather, entertainment and information, and can even convert a television into a jukebox through digital music channels. The ability to enjoy these channels involves having the right equipment, viewing a menu and selecting the items.
Instructions
1. A cable card is roughly the same size as a memory card.
Determine if you have a "plug-and-play" television set, which accepts cable cards, by consulting your television’s owner manual or contacting the manufacturer. Obtain a cable card or security card if your cable provider offers this service. Insert the cable card into the designated slot on your television.
2. Purchase or rent a digital cable box if you do not have a "plug-and-play" television, if your provider does not offer a cable card or if you want access to on-demand, pay-per-view or other two-way services. Connect the coaxial cable from the wall cable outlet to the "cable in" connection on the back of the box. Connect a separate coaxial cable from the "cable out" connection on the box to the "antenna" connection on the television. Turn the channel on the television to 3 or 4 to view channels on your cable box.
3. Select the digital channels you want and subscribe to the package with those channels. Providers carry a basic or standard digital tier with local stations and most channels available on analog cable. Also, subscribers can order tiers for sports, Latino programming, movies, premium channels and other specialty programming. Contact your cable provider or go to your provider’s website and find the digital cable packages or channel listings.
