Part of the HP Pavilion 552w-b Desktop PC bundle along with the HP MX70 monitor, the HP 552w desktop computer may also be referred to as its model number: P9816A. The HP552w ships with the Windows XP operating system and includes a range of pre-installed software, including HP RecordNow, Microsoft Encarta, MusicMatch Jukebox and Norton Antivirus 2002.
Processor and Memory
The HP 552w desktop computer ships with 256 megabytes (MB) of PC 2100 DDR memory. Users may upgrade the computer to a maximum of 2 gigabytes (GB). The motherboard features two memory module slots. The computer features a Pentium 4 processor running at 2.0 gigahertz.
Storage
The HP 552w includes a 60 GB internal hard disk drive, a 1.44 MB (3.5-inch) floppy disk drive and a CD-RW disc drive. The optical drive is capable of reading discs at a maximum speed of 40x, writing discs at a maximum of 24x and rewriting discs at a maximum of 10x.
Multimedia and Communications
Although the HP 552w's motherboard provides a built-in graphics chipset, users may upgrade the video card via the AGP slot provided on the motherboard. The integrated AC '97 audio chipset provides sound for the computer. In addition, the desktop computer features a Cheetah 2 fax and data modem and an integrated 10/100 Ethernet chipset for establishing wired network connections. The HP 552w also provides expansion opportunity for upgrading other multimedia and network components via three PCI slots on the motherboard.
Ports
The HP 552w provides two USB ports on the front of the computer and two on the back. The computer also includes two PS/2 ports that accommodate the bundled keyboard and mouse, and a serial port and a parallel port for connecting older peripherals and printers.
