Retro Kitchen Designing

Retro Tea Set

Decorate your kitchen with retro flair to add classic style and charm to your home. Buy antique kitchen items or choose replicas, such as toasters, blenders and even stoves and refrigerators. Vintage textiles, such as tablecloths, will add an authentic retro touch. Look for antique tea sets, jars and canisters, which can be used in many different ways in your kitchen.

Vintage Textiles

Vintage textiles, such as tablecloths and curtains, add an authentic retro touch to your kitchen. Choose white cotton tablecloths and napkins featuring sweet embroidery details such as cherries, apples and tomatoes, along with other fruit and vegetable designs. Cotton gingham-patterned curtains in primary colors such as red and yellow will evoke a simpler era. Hang delicate vintage window coverings, such as white eyelet or lace for antique farmhouse appeal. Using a coat rack, hang various colorful retro aprons.

Retro Kitchen Items

Use authentic antique kitchen items or replicas to create a retro look in your kitchen. Buy a chrome toaster and blender set and look for a 1950s-style refrigerator; you may be able to find an original in working condition. Serve food on a vintage, brightly colored Formica dinette set featuring chrome details; set out an old-fashioned silver tea set. If space allows, set up an antique jukebox to keep guests entertained during dinner parties. Buy a vintage pie safe in which to store baked goods and fresh bread.

Antique Accessories

Antique accessories, such as glass jars and vases, will add vintage appeal to your kitchen. Replace boring kitchen cabinet knobs with elegant vintage glass versions. Breathe new life into antiques by turning them into useful household items. Vintage soda bottles can become charming flower holders, while a wooden tool box transforms into a key or pen holder. Fill antique glass jars with silverware for a rustic, relaxed touch. Old-fashioned tin canisters featuring retro patterns and designs make cute herb planters.
